Friends Over Technology

As we move further and further into a digital age, we find ourselves in front of our screens more and more.  Even when we are with our friends, the screens seem to be calling us and we catch ourselves checking emails, texts, and social media instead of investing in a good conversation and friendship.  But having a good friend is worth more than any electronic game, video clip or recipe.   So what can we do to build better relationships with our friends?

Be Approachable - Having your screen on and in front of you doesn’t exactly open you up to a conversation or even a quick hello.  When an opportunity arises to be social, put your screen away and your smile on.

Be Yourself - Being true to who you are is the best way to find what you have in common with others.  People are drawn to others that have the same tastes, ideals and hobbies.  Be engaged in being yourself and you will find others that are interested in the same things you are.

Elevate Others - Start finding things that are good or great about others and then share it with them.  Build them up.  Helping others feel important is one of the best things you can do to build a relationship.

Serve Others - When you do nice things for others, it shows that you are a true friend.  The old saying, “no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care” will always be true.  Find out what others needs are and fill them, it’s one of the richest investments you can make!
